im looking at these saddles, as they claim to be adjustable and fit all horses/ponies........ so who has them, do they do as claimed, or is it more a case of fit a lot of horses but still a large percentage they dont suit??

im looking at all the options as thinking i need a new saddle for my welsh sec a- who has a back like a table top!

all opinions/suggestions gratefully recieved.

thanks

A lot of people do not like wintecs as the old design was not great and I personally would have only used one as a short term stop gap.

However in the last year or so they have totally over hauled the design and I am very impressed with it!! :) the panels and a lot wider and flatter and no longer the banana shape they were so highly critisised for. A client of mine bought a brand new wintec pony saddle (which are 15/16" and I assume what you'd want) and it is really nice. Fits well (they do adjust well) and puts the children in a really nice postion. Has several girth strap options. It does not move an inch or bounce whatsoever.

I'd highly recomend one if you want to go down the synthetic route.

Awful things - never suited any of mine, the cut was all wrong and felt horrible to sit on! Sorry but that's my experience.

I have a wintec for all of mine and my welsh mare who has the same type of back and no withers it fits her perfectly......i did have to change fitter to a specialist bates and wintec fitter as all the different types of things you can do with them my regular saddle fitter didnt know.

thanks for the comments so far- as we need maximum of a 15inch seat, secondhand there few and far between,

good to hear the newer ones are better shaped/ftting

still like to hear more opinions please

thanks

I LOVE wintec on my mare, weve had two dressage saddles and moved onto the isabel and we love it. I would never have a saddle that didnt have adjustable tree at the very least but thats me.

I myself dont like the new standard wintec dressage and gp( the basic ones), think they fit awful and theres so much padding in all the wrong places your perched above the horse and doesnt allow you any feel, ridden in both GP and dressage and felt perched in both of them with no contact with the horse, vile.

For a ponys saddle id deff recommend a wintec tho, they change shape a fair bit and theyre rough and tough so they dont get damaged as easily and not so much care needed for children.

:)

I have just sold a 15" wintec, they do come up on ebay now and again as two others were on when mine was. Wintecs do come up long so yoou should measure the total length if you have a short backed pony.

I have a Wintec Wide for my Haffy and a brand new Wintec GP for my tb and both are very good. The new design has lovely soft flocking, great panels and fits really well (my fussy saddler had no issue with it and I had given up a lovely Ideal saddle for it), the onlyy down side is that the seat is slightly harder on me. The Wintec Wide fits my haffy reall well while other saddles were hopeless. I used to have a Thorowgood but it twisted badly on my tb (and was brand new) it totally put me off them.
