Hi! Wintec are great. I spent a fortune on a made to measure saddle for my boy only for him to change shape shortly afterwards. He now has a Wintec and its light, looks good and fits perfectly. (and one third the price of the leather one)
Theyre dont go mouldy and are easy to clean. Someone on here said they use baby wipes on theirs.
I love mine, I have a Pro dressage and a 2000 GP. My GP fits my horse perfectly and is really comfy, the dressage isn't such a good fit and is more difficult to adjust as it has CAIR not flock so can't be re-flocked. I can't really see the benefits of having a CAIR saddle TBH, it's like concrete and can't be adjusted or anything! But mine were the only ones I could afford and for the price they are fantastic. The gullets are easy to change once you've had some practice!
Yes they are good - have the 2000 GP saddle for my ID x, the saddler fitted it and also gave me another gullet for when she is all fit and slender (and he showed me how to change it - v simple) I also have the PRO dressage saddle and again its brill - we changed the gullet and daughter is now using it on her TB event horse.
My decision was either (a) buy a very good synthetic saddle or (b) for the same money buy an 'average' or second had leather saddle.
Also people do not look down on them as being inferior so much now, although if you plan to do any showing then you really do need a leather one.
I have a Wintec on trial atm, the Isobell Werth. Have been waiting for the saddle fitter to find a saddle to fit my shire for months so he has let me try this.
Im not overly impressed, but perhaps Im comparing it to my other dressage saddle for different horse. I dont feel it would save my life and the seat area seems overly big. It does keep my lower leg secure though. Not sure about it, and £595 for a synthetic seems quite alot of money if you not 100% happy with it.
I was always anti synthetic, choosing to buy a good 2nd hand leather instead. I had the saddler out a few months ago and found out that the tree in my current saddle had gone (bearing in mind I only bought it three years ago). I had just bought a brand new leather for my daughters horse so cash flow is a bit tight. I could again buy a 2nd hand leather and risk getting anither 'weak tree'or try a synthetic. I tried a wintec VSD which the saddler said fitted my TBx perfectly, I have been using for two months and am converted. If we were going to show at county level etc of course it wouldnt do, but for a good alround PC/RC sort of saddle it is excellent.
I have a wintec and very good saddle fitter too! I got the VSD and I don't think I would ride in anything else, she changed shape quickly so it was good to have the interchangable gullet, wintec have put thousands into researching and developing their saddles, synthetics have come on a lot.
Gullets arent amazingly easy to change - more of a thing to get your dad to struggle with, i didnt have the strngth to change mine.
Personally I dont like the CAIR, and have suspisions it gave my horse a cold back, or at least the symptoms of. My wintec 500 also never sat very well, and moved up and down when I did rising trot, and when mounting. It was checked twice by 2 different saddlers, who okayed it.
Wouldnt get another one personally - they dont fit every horse either, no matter what the gullet guide says.
Both my horses have the wintec 500 gp with cair, and we also have the dressage 500 with cair. Love them to bits and the horses do seem happy with them too. The only thing i don't like is that the dressage saddle isn't as deep seated as the old albion that my boy grew out of ( i loved that saddle), but that is a minor niggle as it doesn't stop us competing
