Anyone have any ideas? I'm just about at the end of my tether with this saddle search. My saddle-fitter has recommended a Wintec Isabell for my boy. I need an 18", however, (cursed big gangly legs) and neither she nor I are fans of CAIR, so I want a flocked one. I just can't seem to find one, new or secondhand, anywhere? :(

Equestrian clearance had them on offer up till a couple of weeks ago and then went out of stock as soon as I got the funds together (typical) I also got outbid at the last minute after watching one obssesively on ebay at the weekend.

Does anyone have any ideas? Anyone got one lying around that they haven't got round to advertising yet?

This saddle seems to be my only option at the moment, as I can't afford a made-to-measure and there seem to be very few secondhand leather wide-fitting 18" dressage saddles around - my saddle-fitter doesn't even have any in stock to try on my horse and neither do any of the others around here.

I'm in the same situation as you. A month or so ago there seem to be a fair few about but not anymore.

I gave up yesterday and bought an 18" Isabelle but with Cair. Fortunately my horse doesn't have a problem with Cair.

eggs - you really have my sympathies. How are you getting on with the cair version? I don't think my boy would be keen and neither does my saddle fitter, so guess I'd better just keep looking.

To be honest I haven't had a problem with him having Cair in the past. I originally had him in a 17.5" Cair Wintec but realised I needed a larger seat so I then put him in my flocked Albion for the last six months but actually prefer the Wintec, hence my new purchase.

Hmmm, I guess I'm going to have to have a rethink on this one and possibly bite the bullet and try a cair one. I really can't think of any other way around it. I keep hearing rave reviews about the saddle, so darn frustrating when I can't get my hands on one.

I wonder if the flocked version is effectively discontinued or something now?

I had a Cair one but my saddler had no trouble removing the Cair and turning it into a flocked saddle. Cost me £30 and seems to be a good job - as in, never had any trouble with the saddle, the horse, the fit, her back, etc!

Sadly Cair has been very well marketed and most people thing it's the bee's knees. Until you start to learn a bit more about saddles and realise isn't not ;)

As MysTYC suggested, get a Cair version and have the bags removed and the panel flocked. It'll cost you more than £30 to have it done properly though - a full reflock costs about £80, with decent short fibre white wool
