Not sure to go for a wintec vsd, thorowgood cob or gp? She is a 13.3hh Fell and will change shape a lot as she matures. saddle it to tide us over whilst i save for a native saddle pony one for next year. I will be doing local level shows, dressage, le trek and pleasure rides this year till I am certain what it anything we will focus on as a discipline.

She was bum high last year and lean and is now leveling out and filling out, but might be deceptive as hair currently like a gonks!

I have the Thorowgood T4 cob and so far have been very impressed with it. It hurt my bum the first few times using it, but now I've got used to it its pretty comfortable. Pony seems to be happy in it which is the most important thing though.

Your pony has a similar back shape to my cob and the saddler said how well balanced it was on his back. He is in the xxw gullet

It depends on which fits your horse better....can you not try both on?

Our tb has massive shoulders but the t4 gullet (the bit you change) digs into his shoulders as its very long....his wintec vsd doesn't as it is shorter and allows for his big movement.

Agree with slightlyconfused, it depends what fits your horse.
I recenlty (last week) bought a Wintec VSD and I am extremely impressed with it. I was originally going to go for the Thorowgood but my saddler suggested the Wintect VSD as it is a lot straighter cut and my mare also has big shoulders and is tricky to fit. She can move so much better in this than any saddle she has had before it :)

For wide flat backed coblets the thorowgood is more often the best option. I got one for backing my haffie but am still using it 5 years later!!

I think is because the TG tree is flatter and the wintec one is more banana shaped which fits more withered types

BTW lovely lovely horse!!!

I have just purchased a thorowgood gp.... I love it as does anyone else that had ridden! I tried a wintec and also loaned a horse who had a wintec. I find my thorowgood is much smarter and I feel way more secure. My horse is an ish but probably better described as cob really.

I have just bought a Thorowgood T8 17.5 GP and am amazed at how comfortable it is, it was like sitting in an armchair and I hope its the same for my horse, I wasn't really worried about how I'd feel as he's 34and lost a bit of muscle from not being ridden for nearly a year after a tendon injury, his comfort was my priority.

Anyway if anyone is thinking of getting one, I suggest you try one, if you didn't know I think you would think it was all leather too its so nice

Mine was fitted by a saddler, he had to stuff the back up a bit, the front was fine, which is why I wouldn't just go and buy one off the shelf as I wouldn't know it fitted

I have my fell in the Thorowgood t4 cob, it's less restricting with her movement than the wintec I had. It does make my butt ache though, I'm hoping that's just a breaking in problem though.
Your mare is lovely, what's her breeding?
