hi,

Since changing my horse insurance company and being told that as my horse is over 12 years old I need 5* veterinary history to be taken on, I feel paranoid that my young looking 13 year old Welsh Cob is getting old and will start to have medical problems.

Feeling paranoid that he is developing cushings disease because he has not lost all of his winter coat yet (no other symptoms). Field companion has full beautiful summer coat. What do you think? Am I panicking unduly.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry too much, cushings is pretty obvious in my experience. I think as horses get a little older it just takes a bit more time for their summer coats to come through, just keep giving him a good groom. Our 18 year old has just this week lost all her winter coat, and needed much more grooming than the younger ones.. i think the quality of their coats changes a bit too, although missy defo has her summer coat now it is a little more course than previous years. hope that helps ease your worried mind!

Thanks very much for your reply.

I have owned horse for 8 years now and never noticed/or given his coat any thought before - just seemed normal. I think it is a combination of insurance companies commenting on his age and comparing him to 4 year old New Forest pony companion.

Thanks again.
