Hey everyone,

before I start I want to say sorry for another feeding question from me, I am useless when it comes to what feed ..

So I have a 6year old tb that I bought a year ago in poor condition, she lived out last year but is now in fab condition (just needing a bit of topline and neck muscles now) ..

Anyway when she was living out she was fed 1 full scoop of allen and page calm and conditon and a full scoop of alpha a oil .. last winter she also had alphabeet but the quantities was higher.

I moved her this year at the end of june and she is now living in at night, I then reduced her feed first to 1/2 scoop of C&C and 1/2 scoop of alpha a oil and now she is down to 1/4 scoop of C&C and 1/2 scoop of hifi origional because she was going off the alpha a oil ..

I reduced her feed because she was starting to get a bit fizzy on large amounts of feed with a haylage net at night and being in at night = fizzy tb .. and she refuses to eat hay .. she wont eat hay only haylage (spoilt horse) ..

Anyway coming into winter im worrying about her weight and thinking that she could do with a little bit more weight for the winter, now my YM said to add a little bit of sugabeet in her dinner .. and then today my YO said if it was him he'd change her feed completly to hifi orgional, redmills cool n cooked and sugabeet ..

now I dont really want to go messing around her feed because she is settled with what shes on, im just wondering if theres something else that I can add in OR just to up her feed hoping she won't get fizzy ..

Im not sure my YO had her when she was a racer a year ago and has a lot of racers and ex racers on the yard still but im not sure what to do? Advice would be helpful .. and yes I am useless when it comes to new feed.. a friend of mine has just reccomended naf pink powder aswell?

This was her a year ago:

Sorry if photos are big I dont know how to adjust them :)

You could try Micronised Ground linseed, Charnwood Mills do it in a big bag. It last my horse about 4 months and is very good value. If she is going of Alfa Oil try Top Spec Top Chop, I have just put my mare on this and she seems to prefer it. Pink Powder is excellent for good condition and gut function and I have used it for several years now with my TB. I also feed Top Spec Cool Condition Nuts.

Hope this helps.

Well the pictures speak for themselves...she looks amazing so i wouldnt change anything. Perhaps if she does loose condition increase her rations or her haylage. If she get fizzy then maybe swap to Alfa A original with less oil but it isnt too much of a change for her. Everyone has different opinions and experiences with feed and it is a mind field at the best of times, especially with so many options on the market but you have obviously found what works for her and she likes it so i would say dont fix what isnt broken.

I would taker her off the alfa a oil, and change to hi fi molasses free, and c&c, ive just spoken to both companies about mine whos spooky and needs to keep weight on, and thats what they have suggested. I also feed a calmer, micro linseed.

If its not broke dont fix it! I think she looks bloody fabulous considering what she looked like a year ago!
IF she needs something more, add sugarbeet and micronised linseed.
But its always preferable to give more forage.

Her chaff is Alfa a oil though and that is totally molasses free?!

OP I would keep her on the same as she looks so good and increase it slowly if she needs more. I've looked at that red mills feed details and the cc is a MUCH better feed, it's higher in energy and fibre but much lower in starch than the redmills.
You could also add oil. I just add bog standard sunflower oil to my TBs feed in the winter :).
