Hi,, just wondering what you lot feed your horses on in the winter to keep there weight on etc.

Hi there,

I have the same issues with wanting to keep the weight on without the "nutty horse" syndrome :)

I feed mine spillers conditioning fibre for the oils and fibre so it's slow release energy as well as maintaining a healthy gut with good amounts of fibre. As a balncer I use the saracen shape up (but thats for stopping excessive weight gain I hear you say) But it has the recommended vits and mins and it balances the weight gain properties of the Spillers CF.

Always on ad lib hay!

Hope that helps :)

hiya :D

my horse is a fairly good doer, our grass is quite good even through winter so my boy is out for about 9 hours then stays in at night and has around 12 lbs of hay. he has two feeds a day: 3 stubbs round scoops of hi-fi origional and 400g of lo-cal balancer and 200g (dry weight) speedi-beet all split between to feeds.

My pony has just began to lose a lot of weight. She lives out and has access to hay but to help with her condition she is now on Spillers Slow Response Cubes which are fantastic and I highly recommend them. She has these with chaff and in the winter I shall introduce sugarbeet and oil and if need be, I will replace her Mollichaff with Alfalfa.
