AND I HATE IT!!

But.. living out ponios seem to be quite happy. They are rugged (well one is, cob is just hairy)have field shelter bedded up which they are choosing not to use, 7 acres of grazing between the two of them and are checked three times a day fed twice a day and groomed daily.

Lunged two or three times a week and ridden twice.

So why do I feel guilty?

Is it just me?

If you feel guilty then do something about it.

sounds a great routine...mine get ridden at weekends cause I dont have time in the week with uni and the dark and are out 24/7....its better for them in my view to be out....less stable habit problems and better for their joints...they have good strong rugs...although im sure they would be better without them and they are happy....horse survive without human interferance in the wild...
dont feel guilty.....sounds like a good routine...

well I can top that on guilt!! Just sold a horsey who is used to coming in at the moment.....

He is going to live out, good shelter and actually he prefers living out!

But I am sending him off with a really heavyweight waterproof masta rug just because I feel guilty!! He probably doesnt even care!!

But I can't bring them in. WOuld have to put on full livery as leave for work at stupid O'clock and get back at even stupider. would lose access to grazing of my choice and not see them as much either..

Don't want to whinge as.. I did ask.. but.. feel guiltier now as can't change their routine for the forseeable future.

elsielouise - mine are the same as yours, with less grazing, and boggy fields. They have a lovely large shelter which they won't use unless all the hay is in there, but then they get jealous and scrap, so most of it is in a hay rack - in the mud.

I only groom at weekends because I've got no lights.

One is rugged, the other 2 are hairy.

Haven't ridden for a couple of weeks as haven't got time, nor time this weekend, but I don't feel guilty because Rosie normally has a 6-8 week break at this time of the year anyway, shoes off and roughed off.

Wasn't intending to completely rough her off this time, but just haven't got time to ride. She doesn't mind. She seems happy either way.

Don't feel guilty. I'm sure your horses would rather be out than in most of the time.

Why feel guilty.... horses are probably lovin it. Merlin is out and happy and I have little inclination to ride at all. But he is happy, far happier than if he was cooped up in a dusty stable for half the day.

I have noticed that whereas last year he had a constantly gunky nose, all flakey and snotty.... this year its as clean as a whistle, no dust you see....

And he can wander around looking for tasties in the hedge, rather than poke around his haynet and find....... oh more hay!!!

And he can roll in the mud and make himself soooooo dirty that mummy doesnt want to/cant get him clean enough to ride!!!

To be honest the saying 'Like a pig in S**T' comes to mind

Let them enjoy the winter..... and you too

thank you..

Hope it stops raining this weekend then willl get them both out. Maybe it's just that during the summer we competed most weekends, looked lovely and clean and we made some real progress.

Ho hum... off to work now too
