Yes, yes, I know it's August....

But Henry is having a haircut on Saturday and 6 weeks from then we will be into Autumn

I was thinking of keeping him clipped over winter as he gets wet all the time and short fur dries quicker. But do you think he will be ok? I have no experience of a hairy horror as Barney was just the same all year round so this is all a learning curve for me!

Also, when it snowed last year the snow balled up in his fur, so another reason I'm thinking short might be better.

If you clip him all year round you could get him a dinky little coat

That would be soooo sweet

Some kind person told me today that it is 12 weeks to Christmas

... and you have just reminded me, I have no idea where I put my little greyhound coats when I moved house

Although I was thinking of getting him a high-viz one anyway!

Do you think they could clip him but leave it a bit longer?

Yep so long as you tell them what you want, they will do it

My mum does some clipping/grooming and she has some fab stories of what people want - but she always makes sure that she does what the owner asks, not what she thinks might look rather better (a poodle story comes to mind....)

I clipped my Mum's JRT last week as the mud clogs up her hur, I use Nicky Clark hair clippers and blade number 3. She is as happy as larry and wont be rugged until it gets really cold

I definitely think you should do the same with Henry but you MUST add pics

I have Sweep clipped all year round as he has such a thick coat. It stops him getting too hot in summer and in the winter because of the heating. It also stops him absorbing half the brook and transferring it to my bed/sofa and also keeps the smell down when he goes paddling throught the muck heap, stables etc etc.....

Hahaha - Okay, I will often do "what the client asks for" but sometimes with a caveat: Don't ever tell anyone who clipped him/her like this! Sometimes just swearing the owners to secrecey is enough to put them off that "bad" haircut idea they wanted.

As for clipping short for winter - yep do it all the time. Many of my clients go for longer flasher styles in the spring and autumn and get really short trims in the heat of summer and wet miserable winter. They do dry and warm up much faster with shorter trims. It's a must for arthritic dogs, IMO.
