Has anyone got experience in laying a track /area of hard standing...?

I'm investigating how we can create an all weather pathway that the horses & humans can use to keep out of the mud, and a vehicle can travel on if required?

So far I'm thinking that we need to scape off the topsoil, lay hardcore and then road planings on top. The question is what volume/tonnage would we need for say a 50m by 3 m area? (150m2).. I'm trying to do the costings so I can see if we can afford it..

any help much appreciated, we're at the foot of the hill, and there is some clay hence some quite painfully boggy bits!

I think you need to find a guy with a digger and ask him how to proceed:

I reckoned on 60 tonnes of coarse aggregate [8 inches deep]
and 20 tonnes of crushed stone [3 inches deep]

Usually a roller needs to be used once the surface has been levelled.

If it were me, I would go to the local quarry and ask them for a local contractor, transport is a huge cost, for this job it might be better to think about a lorry load, rather than the sacks [cubic metre=one tonne], though the sacks are easier to handle.
