At YHL we saw a couple of people selling portable pressure washers that you filled with warm water and the ran off a small rechargeable battery. The idea was that you could fill it with warm water at your house and then take it to the yard and have a supply of pressurised warm water to wash down legs etc with when there was no hot water tap available or possibly even no electric supply.

Any thoughts on these? We are thinking of investing but would like to know other peoples opinions first! Also how do you get around the problem of washing down in winter and not wanting to use cold water?

They did vary a lot in price range , one was about £90 I think it was a Mobi one and the other (which was bigger and better and on wheels ) but I cant remember the name was about £290!

Thanks :D

I was was seriously considering one, the Mobi washer as I have no mains elctricity and wanted to carry on competing through the winter, I liked the idea of washing off with warm-ish water and so on. However, after years of turning my nose up at it I've discovered the merits of pig oil!

I was sceptical and thought it 'old fashioned, it's just for heavies/hairies you won't get near mine with that!' but am having to eat my words, mine are clean for the first winter in years and it didn't cost over £100 :))

I have a horse shower - total cost £1.99!! I bought an old fashioned hair washing shower - one of those rubber things with 2 nozzles which attach to the taps in our laundry which luckily is next to the back door of our house which even more luckily is next to our stables. I turn on the hot and cold taps until the mix is the right temperature and hey presto out of the hose comes lovely warm water! Ok its not portable but when you have a hot sweaty and very muddy horse he becomes pristine in minutes - fab after hunting. A friend has a Mira shower in her tack room with a hose attached - bit more up market than mine!

I bought an Anivac last year...sort of a horse rug shampooer....you put hot water and shampoo in the internal bucket, and turn the machine on...it's a wetvac...then there's a button on the hardpiece that shoot outs the shampoo which is instantly vacuumed up...pretty neat and the horse is only damp when you're done.

They've got a dealer in Yorkshire.

I wash legs off with cold hosepipe and hibiscrub.

I use a bucket of hotwater (a Kettle full of very hot water and topped up with cold water), a splash of vetrolin and a sponge. dunk sponge, wring out and wipe over horse. Cue hot bath, clean horse and a brilliant shiny coat! Mind, I wouldn't want to be doing that on an unclipped horse.

I have just this minute opened my new MOBI WASHER V-17!! £130 direct from their site.

I took the decision to purchase one after several years of early morning leg washes in the freezing cold (ours live out) before dressage comps.

I saw them advertised the other day and all reviews on several sites are good.

I can't see how it won't be useful really with the hot water in it, and as its rechargable too. I will taker an extra kettle full with me and just fill up with cold/kettle as needs be. I just need it for washing a cobs legs in the winter, but it may prove even more useful than that!

It looks like a great machine, really well build and very mobile.

Will let you know, first use Sunday!

ps: they are on offer at the moment! usual price 149!
