as title, does anyone recommend any warm, waterproof, winter lace up boots for a fused ankle.

mum has had one of her ankles fused and will be having the other one done next year but we cant find any boots that support and fit her right, she cant bend her ankle so the have to have either a lace or zip up that opens up so she can just slot her foot in.

any suggestions would be appreciated

Ariats most definitely. I have no ankle joint, lost it some years ago and live in Ariats. The gel foot bed is a godsend. Yes they are expensive, but so worth it.

I have no experience of a fused ankle but am not a youngster, as H&H jokingly describes me.
My warm winter boots are Mountain Rider classic. They lace up, are warmly lined and give good support. Mine have lasted well 10 years and I bought my equally elderly OH a pair too.
They are short boots so I ride in half chaps too. The only downside is that these are riding boots and for this reason are fairly smooth soled. You need to be careful when leading horses on ice or in an icy yard.
Tho one can get grippy things to slip on over boots in snow, I wouldnt choose them for urban walking when pavements are slippery with ice. But as yard boots and for riding when it is really cold, they are brilliant.

Another for Ariats :)
Really supportive, have the Tellurides (lace-ups) & the jodh boots (front zip) both easy to get on with my ankle.
Not sure which will be warmest in the range tho, but the lace-ups are fine with thick socks (or were last winter when I was on crutches)

The Insulated Ariat Bromonts are seriously warm and very comfortable - lace inserts at the ankle and a full-length back zip so well worth a try!

Ariat coniston. They lace all the way up the front of the boots and have a zip all the way up the back :) best of both worlds. Mine have lasted 5 yrs now, are ultra comfy and warm
