Not to have won £300. Table A8 starts at 1.10 - gets enourmous by the final round. You need to be seriously good to qualify as only the top 2 do, and the final is in Hickstead Main arena. It's a class dominated by pros on very special horses

Wouldn't say it gets enormous by final round, everyone i have spoken to said this class has gone down in standard over the past few years.

I have been to 4 qualifiers and none of them have gone over a decent 1.25/1.30. Which for a class starting at 1.10 over 3 rounds isn't huge.

Although i agree you have gotta go pretty quick and turn over a decent sized course to qualify

Well, you may not call it huge, but us mere mortals would....when you consider that these are (supposedly!) Novice horses jumping and that the Summer Grade C Qualifier won't get much more than about 1.35m in the JO. Not only do you need to be 'jumping' 1.30m in the final round...you need to be flying to stand any chance of getting anywhere near qualification !

Put it into perspective...the Hickstead Speed Derby is over a 1.40m course...and that's open to any horse

yeah i agree with you. the fact that the horses in it cant have won 300 means that your not gonna be on a very experienced horse and 1.30 or so on a novice is pretty big! Ive done a couple of the qualifiers on my staliion but he's only 5 this time but will be out of it next year. Has won about £200 not and although the 1st 2 rounds r ok I thijnk the 3rd round is to big for what is essentially a 4yr old!!
