Winter... Please help!!!

I ride and look after a friends pony all the time... ive basically adopted it because she didnt want it anymore... he still lives on her yard with their other horses and ponies... they want him to winter out which is fine but the others all come in so he's on his own!!! Its not my pony so theres nothing i can do really but i feel so bad about him out alone!!

Will he be ok alone? Im so worried!!

Poor pony

I really hate to hear about things like that, he has probably been with the other up till now and now suddenly not cared about any more.

Sorry I cant help with whether he will be OK, is he ever left out when the other come in now.

If it was one of mine they would definately get very upset if all the other came in and they had to stay out.

Can you not negotiate him going in if you look after him
 
yes he is quite often out on his own for a few hours in summer and is not too bothered.... he was out on his own last winter and he doesnt go mad... and is ok in the day... its just at night he stands by the gate cos hes on his own....

Did think of that but i cant really get up there before school to muck out and turn him out

can go up in the evenings though but not much good... i feel so bad about it even though its not my fault!
 
Depends on the pony TBH, we had one live out in our boys field last year and he honestly didn't give a stuff - however any of the others would throw their toys out of the pram if left!
 
one of my horses is far happy in a field alone than coming into a stable (he hates stables!) so he does stop out.

He never makes a fuss if i put him into a field alone but he can sometimes get upset when i take his mates away. So he comes "in" with his mates, gets a tiny feed and then gets turned out again. Everyones happy!

As everyone else has said, all horses are different
 
Yes he has been out alone before last year... i have been riding him since last winter and he was out alone then but only used to ride him occasionally then....

Thanks for advice everyone! I'll let u know how he goes! tbh ive got my own ponio to worry about!!
