Hello,
I am wondering how you all deal with rubbed shoulders and saddle area. I am a entingrider at international level so i know a lot about horses and they get the best feed and everything. But one of my competition horses gets really bad shoulder rubbings and a little bit on her back. I have tried about 5-6 different rugs (horseware, weatherbeeta, horsecomfort, bucas u name it) and even if they fit she still gets really bad. I have a sheepshin saddlepad from kentucky but it doesen’t help. Any tips? I am desperate?

Putting coat spray on every day helps a bit and a silky bib but even with that mine still get the odd bit that rubs, I think after months of rugs on it's just something that happens unfortunately, roll on summer!!

I second the bib, was going to suggest it myself as my Arab X TB got it bad last Winter so I bought some cotton bibs which seemed to help..How often do you change his rug? Is it not possible to give him breaks from it? I recommend swapping every other day if you have a spare and take it off during the day when possible for even just a few hours as it could be due to skin irritation.

A thin nylon bib should prevent most shoulder rubs. It is best to buy two because they get stiff with grease and sweat so need frequent washing. I only buy rugs with detachable liners these days and wash and dry overnight as required. Rugs with decent shoulder gussets also helps prevent rubbing.

I just googled shoulder guards for horses and there seem to be lots of different sorts. I had one years ago and it worked well but I can't remember who made it. I have just bought a snuggy hoods bib which is staying where it's put but I haven't had it long enough to know how effective it is.
