Winter Turnout

Following on from winter post... how much turn out does your horse get during winter? I am thinking of moving my lad from existing yard (fear of attempted theft reprisal!) where we currently have turnout even in deepest winter but its usually mud up to his belly! If I move I might only be able to get crew yard turnout and only weekends to ride!!!! Whats others arrangements like?

I'm DIY. My horses go out 24/7 in the summer and all day, every day in the winter.( In at night )I have no restrictions on turnout. If the mud gets really bad, which is usually in the gateways, I sometimes leave them in at weekends when I can ride or if the weather has been really awful. I do not have floodlights on my arena so can't ride late pm in winter but more often than not finish in time to give my horses a lunge before the light fades.

The horses where I am are stabled through the night all year. In the warm weather they go out at about 9am and come in again at about 6pm. In the depths of winter they only go out for a few hours in the afternoon. When it is very hot in the summer they go out for a few hours in the early morning and for a few hours again in the late evening.

Im on diy have option of 24/7 turnout summer & winter. I tend to put my monsters out during the night in summer & in during the day to give them a rest from flies & midgies & to watch the waist line. In the winter I have them in at night & out during the day. Most yards round here offer all year turnout.

My yard offers 24/7 all year round, so I am told but it will be my first winter there so I hope they do not change the rules. Seren gets stiff when stabled and prefers being out on the whole

Out all year round. We generally only get mud for a few weeks in Spring, and then not much because we are on sand.

Most of my Boarders choose to have their horses out 24/7 too, the stalled horses will be out at 5am (because I have to be at work for 6am) and back in about 4pm, or earlier if their owners choose.

I am DIY. I have decided to turn my boys out 24/7 this winter for as long as possible as I normally stable them in my barn but Kosha damaged his stall and managed to get in my hay last winter so out they are staying (a shettie and a section A).

The three girls will go out at half 8 in the morning or there abouts and come in at 4pm. Star (the youngest at 15) will be living out until November or maybe longer if the weather isn't too bad.They are only in because they are old and Star escapes once she realises she only has her feed and hay and no nice grass left in the paddock.

i am lucky as i am on 24/7 all year turnout even in snow! he does have a stable and he could come in during the day or night or 24/7 if he wanted to but he does not normally want to and he got hay in his field during the snow and was perfectly happy. however he is a native so designed to live out and is a good doer as well.
