Anyone else's horse become really woolly? Until a week or so ago, Kal's last clip (end Jan) was holding and he was looking lovely and sleek . . . he has suddenly grown another coat in the past week or so and is looking really quite woolly all of a sudden. I know daylight length has more to do with coat growth (and loss) than temperature, but is it possible that this recent cold weather (combined with lack of good grazing) has promoted him to grow a new woolly jumper? Am I alone here?

Also, I'm loathe to clip him again . . . but he looks appalling . . . :(.

Mine is unclipped so has been wolley all winter, but he had started to shed about 2 weeks ago. I left him be and refrained from getting my shedding blade out as I knew it would get cold again. Checking him yesterday I noticed he has stopped shedding now! Poor animals are so confused! x

Yes, my horse has only been clipped once this winter (end of November) as I pay someone to do it so can't do it whenever I want, and his clips seem to last forever as well; his neck still looks rather fresh. In the last few weeks he's grown a lovely little beard and has a few longer hairs growing on his belly. I don't have anything coming up that he has to look really smart for so I think I'm just going to leave them for now, and hope that he will look nice again when spring finally arrives and his summer coat comes through properly.
