winter !!!

Cold cold and very cold, not much snow I reckon (could be wrong though).
I think it's going to be bloody cold though - We need a winter warmers thread to stock up for the winter and keep ourselves sain!
Going to be a long winter I think :(
Can't bear to think about it TBH!!

Dreading it, tbh... Will be my first winter in a long, long time with 3 horses instead of 2. My first *ever* winter with an ex-racer... OMG, the amount of food & hay I'm gonna get thru, not to mention 3 sets of rugs to keep repaired etc... Eeeeppp.....

I'm thinking about it too - and I reckon it's gonna be a cold one again. *sigh* Must sort out getting some straw really.....Should we set up a poll on this ?

Am hoping mine will be easier (and cheaper) with 3 instead of 4. So in theory I should have spare rugs if I have any disasters. Don't expect it will be any easier though.

If you believe the old wives tales; it is going to be very cold....we have had hawthorn berries for a month or more loaded on the bushes. But reckon it will be wet, windy and mild as usual! Quite like cold as long as you can still ride!

Now I'm a fan of Joe *******i (I just love saying his name!) from Accuweather, he always seems spot on with his long range forecasts, and according to him we are indeed set for another cold winter.

Doh - it's edited me! His name is B*s*a*rdi

Welcome to my world. I love it.

Winter is brilliant. No bugs. Sunshine and blue sky most days.

Just get yourself a set of quilted coveralls, decent boots and a hat, get lagging your pipes, sort out your gate ways, snow ploughs, shovels and snow tyres, and lay in a supply of grit/salt. You'll be fine, you all lived through last year so you are well on the way to getting used to it. Winter happens, nothing to do but get on with it.:) Enjoy.
Think of the fun you could have on a quad doing this every day ;)

at least with the rainy, samey weather you know what you're getting into!! chuck on a fleece & a waterproof and head off.

The snow last winter was a NIGHTMARE. meant I couldn't even get to the yard for weeks.

I honestly don't mind rain, mud, cold or whatever, as long as there ground isn't frozen and there's no snow or ice!

I don't think it'll be cold. Reason being we haven't had a boiler/heating since March (boiler broke), but we will do as of 3rd week September (just organised a new one). Consequently we won't need it till mid January and then only for 2 weeks.

Hoping for cold. Saves getting knee deep in mud!

As for the weather now, it actually RAINED here last night and earlier today - first 'major' rains we have had in weeks!

I just hope its not going to be the same as last year, my horses didnt suffer as they weren't to far from home so i managed my 2-3 visits a day and they still had turnout. Its my job, i work as a community support worker and it was dreadful trying to reach people. This year i have my own land which is great and has everything i want... its just a lot further than where i had them last winter.

This winter will be very hard, october will be wet, then not too cold. Jan will be bad, very cold carring on with snow till late march. It has snowed every year for the last 6 years in march.
It is easy to remember when you have a childs birthday in march.

Cold, wet...more wet...and then muddy! Hopefully not too much snow and frost, as don't want the ground going too hard (had enough of that this summer!).
Have already bought my welly socks, and more worryingly my horse is starting to get his winter coat slowly!! I nearly cried lol :(
