Hi All,

Just a little update on Miss P. We had a little setback on Monday when she appeared to have caught her poorly leg and it was very swollen again, I also wasn't happy with how it was looking:

Vet out straight away, put on bute, more antibiotics and an interim bandage change yesterday. Much happier! The honey and bandaging seem to be doing a good job:

Cut is starting to close up now, granulation tissue is nice and flat against the skin and although underneath lookalike lots of proud flesh it is actually loose skin ( could be pulled up like a sock!)

Thanks to some comments on here I have also invested in an ARC equine unit so next post will show how that is working too!

Nasty cut! Shame about the setback though, hope you dont have anymore x

I used to train a TB who got caught in thin rope and cut her leg, thankfully there was little tissue damage and no damage to tndons or ligaments as it was on the back of her front leg, hers was the same, you could pull the skin up like a sock :eek:

It healed amazingly though, a teeny white line when it had healed, i think i may have before and after pics somewhere...

Unfortunately she did this 4 weeks ago tomorrow, it had gone straight down to bone also severing the extensor tendon :eek:

She is making a fab recovery though, thanks x
 
When you say "honey", was that Mannuka honey? And how did you apply it? Presumably with that sort of wound you'd have to apply it on the dressing, and then put the dressing onto the wound with the honey already on it??

Glad its obviously worked so well, have heard good things about Mannuka honey and I know there's a lot of science behind the way it works.

Yes Manuka honey. Actually using gamma irradiated medical grade to make sure no nasty bugs left over after pasteurisation. She has a quite thick foam pad dressing directly on the wound and I put the honey on that before the layers go on.
