Looking at getting one of these Reolink solar charge ones, that need a sim card in. Does anyone have one of these? What data plan are you on? I can't quite work out how much I'd need, and don't want to spend a fortune on data that isn't used!

ETA: any other camera recommendations gratefully received if there's better to be had! Just needs to be rechargeable and not need a hub as it'll be in the field with no power or WiFi!

It depends how you want to use it- I just use mine to briefly check the horses 2 or 3 times through the day so I use hardly any data (less than 1 GB). But if you want to have it set up for movement alerts or more prolonged watching then I'd go for 3 or 5GB

We have four ctronics cameras, linked with a £10 a month ee sim, which is on an old phone which I have set as a mobile hot-spot. The cameras are solar powered and I have the phone attached to a power bank that is also recharged with e dollar plate.

I bought a Garde Pro trail camera during lockdown, supposedly to watch hedgehogs in our back garden as suggested by someone I folow on Twitter. You can get a model that connects to a phone. I didnt. My neighbour has motion cameras all round his house both back and front and in the end I never set mine up.

I’ve got the rural view 360 zoom and use their multi sim package. It’s £11.99 a month so I suspect you can get cheaper but I’m very pleased with it, access has been very reliable, image good. It covers 6 acres no bother. Tracks and records movement.

thought easier to revive this thread rather than start a new one… I’m on the verge of ordering a camera (finally) but can anybody link me to the sd card you need and a good sim deal for the reolink? do you need a normal sim or a nano sim? just want to be able to order it all if possible and don’t really know what i’m doing 😵‍💫

It's the smallest Sim, but I think they come with all sizes now and you just pop out the one you need. You'll need a micro SD card. it says the maximum size on the camera instructions, but I think it's 32GB or 64GB from memory. Mine is with Asda mobile £5 per month. I'd also recommend Giffgaff. The only reason I changed is because I get a better signal with Asda, who run on Vodafone, whereas Giffgaff is O2, so it does depend which signal is best where you are.
