Just wondering if there is such a thing where by I can set up a camera in my mares stable and be able to see it live from home (about 1.5 miles from yard). If there is what do people recommend? And where can I get it from.

TIA X

To do that you'd have to have a wireless connection within close range of the yard; preferably in the house near the stables. Then you set up the web address for the cameras. Then all you do is key in the address wherever you have internet service and you can see the stable.

I've had wireless connection cameras before but I've found them very hit or miss and my house is only about 100ft from the foaling boxes. Last year we hardwired the foalcams and now they work brilliantly. I have the link on my iphone so can watch even if I'm riding or popping into town for groceries.

Sounds quite technical but exactly what I need. What brand should I look out for and how expensive are they?? May need to pop into an electrics store by sound of it. Thanks SF

I use CCTV cameras as anything with 'horse' on the description tends to be much more expensive. Mine are outdoor ones too so they aren't affected by any weather patterns and can be used elsewhere when foaling is over. I use these cameras http://www.amazon.ca/Foscam-FI8904W-Outdoor-Wireless-50-Degree/dp/B00426FEL8 and have this Dlink powerline http://www.dlink.com/ca/en/home-sol...p339av-powerline-av-500-3-port-hd-starter-kit The pictures are very clear on mine and give great detail. I've had different ones before that were a little bit unclear, fussy, they are no good; you want the clearer the better.

We have Foscam pan and tilt cameras, similar to these, £60 each on Amazon UK. (Except OH tells me that we have the ethernet version, which is not available on Amazon.).

They give a decent image, though not HD quality, and the night vision is good. I leave a low wattage night light on at night in the stables. I like the pan and tilt function, as it means there are no blind spots. I have one in each stable plus one in a field shelter.

No idea how I coped without them! Get a simultaneous 4 camera view direct to the iPad. Sadly only viewable at home via wi fi, but that is a drawback of our satellite internet service provider (we are out in the sticks).

I *think* I'll be buying an iBaby monitor, someone recommended it to me as they'd used it for a little one but I think it will work well with mares too, still researching but looking likely, it would allow you to use the iPhone app to view your mare at any time. Be interested to know what others think

I know people who have used this for a foalcam. They've been pleased with them.

Do you know how easy this would be to set up? And if any internet connection needed at the stables? Stable is not far from the little cottage on site but unsure how strong the wifi would be to connect onto it.

From what I understand you do need a good wifi signal, looks like you have to hook it up to the router to install and then it can be used within 75ft of the router depending in signal, if the wifi is good for the camera and your device then you can view the video from anywhere, below is a link for FAQ.

I'm still wondering whether it will be easier to go old school and see about hooking up a video feed as I'll be sleeping in the tack room which is only about 10m from the stable
