I'm about to get an early night (if I can sleep) as at 2am I'm leaving Sussex for a long slog up to Blackpool to pick up Heffner's new playmate Evie. I'm going to say hello to her tomorrow lunch time and then pick her up nice and early Sunday for the 5 hour drive back home. I can't wait! Evie is a 9 month old rescue dane. Can't wait to get her home and settled. Its amazing how popular you become when you have a puppy, suddenly everyone wants to come round for tea! Evie is very nervous so I will be keeping things quiet for her first week or so. More photos to come as soon as I'm home and settled!

Thought the early start would avoid motorway nightmares with traffic, hopefully it will be a nice smooth run without any issues on the busier roads, I really don't want to add on any more time to what is already a 5 hour journey. Can't wait to get her home and settled, the poor girl will hate the journey but will just try and get home safely and quickly so we can relax Sunday evening and she can meet Heffer :)
 
Yay, another Evie, yours looks a sweetie so maybe she won't deserve to be Evil Evie like mine!:p
Hope the journey goes okay, quite a trek eh!

Snow is forecast! You will sadly have to use that as an excuse to bring the big puppy home early. Don't be sad though, imagine how well you will get to know each other over a full weekend back at home :p I am terribly jealous, and demand regular pics from her 'settling in' period :)
 
Please don't mention snow! Can't wait to get her home! and will be uploading lots of photos!
And I'm sure 'Evil Evie' is not really that evil!! ;)

We made it. After an epic journey in which we witnessed 5 major crashes and a lorry burn to the ground on the motorway, we spend over 17 hours on the road in total but made it home safe. Evie is now asleep on the sofa by the fire. She is very nervous but sticking to me like glue and Heffner is being very good (although playing a bit too rough with her!).
I'm so pleased I made the journey to get her. Looking forward to waking up tomorrow! I'm shattered now!

Absolutely worth it! She is going to be a challenge, but it will all be worth it as I can already tell what a wonderful dog she will be once she gains her confidence.
My terrier seems a bit put out that I have introduced a new dog to the house, he just did a wee on the carpet! Very unlike him! But I think having a new puppy around has got him all worked up, although both fast asleep now.

I already have some questions. I know with Danes its best to feed from a raised feed bowel, but are they ok to drink from one on the floor, or should water be raised too? Also, she and my terrier are very thin, she is a pup and being so nervous finds it hard to eat because she is always watching for danger, and my terrier is a fussy eater, so I'm planning on getting them both coats to keep them warm at night, my house is freezing once the fire goes out. Any suggestions on good warm dog jackets that come in a range of sizes.

She is a total sweetie, very sensitive but very sweet :)
Snow on the motorway going up North at 2am was pretty awful! But today on the way home has been sunny the entire journey until half an hour from home when it got cold. :)
