Apologies also to Keats and for my blatant disregard of the iambic pentameter.

Much Have I travell'd to heal horses bold
And many potholed drives and gateposts seen
Round most of northern England have I been
To treat horses lame and sick; young and old.
Oft of one feared disease had I been told
That deep-browed owners held in dread
The famed colic that left horses dead
Or rolling and groaning: sweated yet cold.

Then felt I like Herriot of fabled tale
Rummaging in my car to find the means,
For drugs and stomach tube to treat the ail
Of the fifth colic case that day seen.
And before long I view the product of my travail:
A grazing horse: content, serene.

Distinguishable in member, joynt, or limb,
Or substance might be call'd that overalls seem'd,
For each seem'd either; brave it stood as Herriot,
Fierce as ten Vets, terrible as RVC,
And shook a dreadful cure; what seem'd his head
The likeness of an equine vet it had on.

;)

Milton. I like! And much more scholarly than my populist effort. I am indeed a scientist, though one who did a lot of classics and English lit along the way :).

Ha - you think yours are populist - I started with Lewis Carroll and, after a brief flirtation with Dr. Seuss, have settled on Rudyard Kipling for my next effort!! I did think Dante could be lots of fun but that would take AAAAAAAGES

I have an idea, but it may be rather epic. In fact I may have to take my scalpel to the original as it really is too long. Leave it with me!

I challenge you to an equine-flavoured 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'! :D
