Supposed to be moving yards next week.

Today my strangles test came back type c 0.7!!!

Next step is to have the pouch wash.

In the past 4 months I’ve had a 2k vet bill for hind limb lameness, expensive remedial shoeing, insurance claim for ulcers, and now another £300 for guttural pouch wash. Does anyone know the likelihood of this coming back clear and me still being able to move next week?

WHYYYY is it like this and does it ever stop???

Just one of those things. My uncle had to pay out for a car insurance claim and he said oh well it’s only money.

that has now stuck and it’s fine it is only money but I’m also supposed to be saving for a house and I’m feeling completely priced out from her ??

she needs a new saddle too so waiting patiently for my ones to sell via eBay but it’s just.. constant…

hopefully this spell of bad luck runs out soon it’s been happening since November.

not to mention my phone was stolen Easter weekend so had to pay excess on that, then 3 weeks later horsey had a panic knocked me over and my phone smashed in my pocket completely dead. Another £125 down the drain.

Need my mojo back I am so stressed!

I'm another one who's been spending money hand over fist lately. Each month, I think that next month will be the one where I catch up with myself financially. If it's not one of the horses, it's the lorry; if it's not the lorry, it's the quad; if it's not the quad, someone will have broken something that needs replacing; if it's not that, it's the fencing... Waaaahhh...! I feel your pain!

Is this just adulting!??

no wonder my mum wouldn’t buy me a pony when I was younger… we always loaned.

I swear my horse and vet work together and say I don’t think this woman has paid enough so far let’s create more problems ? if you don’t laugh you’ll cry right??

Standing joke in my house that my salary should go straight to the vet every month.

If it's any consolation my mare was on a yard with strangles a few years back and her test came back around 1.6 but the pouch wash was clear.

My boy had a blood result of 1.8 and scope was clear. But I feel your stress , it is horrible having to wait.
Plus my out-going yo didn't make the procedure very relaxing for my tense horse , which made it awful for him and I was basically on the verge of tears.

To reassure you,.the test result just means he's been in contact with the bacteria so it is unlikely he has anything in there if he doesn't have any symptoms.
Only about 10% are carriers so I'm sure yours will be clear.

I am well versed on strangles sadly. I bought a mare in February and she blood tested negative. She had a slightly damp nose which the vetting vet told me was probably just a hay allergy. Two days after she arrived she had a positive swab for strangles.

My vet says the blood test is now thought not worth doing and it's best to isolate or guttural pouch wash. He also says a lot of horses blood test positive but the gutteral pouch wash is negative and this has certainly been my experience. When we blood tested the whole yard of 24, 7 tested positive. Those 7 were guttural pouched washed, none had chondroids present, 5 were negative on DNA and cultures, 1 positive on DNA and negative on culture and 1 positive on DNA and culture tests. The other problem we had was Royal Mail, the first lot of blood tests went missing on the way to Rossdales so had to be redone. When doing the guttural pouch washes they took extra samples just in case and sent this lot to Liphook, again they got lost so the spare set were sent by courier. As the lab sent prepaid packaging they are technically Royal Mail's customer so the vets had trouble chasing them up, all in all an absolute nightmare.

It really is, I don't even have a horse currently and if it's not the car that needs doing (£1000 being spent out next week), something breaks or some sort of annual bill is due, or you get invited to a hen do that will cost a bomb, or you go to buy a house and realise the whole thing is actually going to cost you £14,500+ on top of your deposit.. oh, and then the fridge freezer breaks down and melts all your food.

We don't currently have a working vehicle between us. We've just paid out to have the particulates filter refurbished on the Shogun and it now needs an oil change before its driveable. My car needs a part replacing in the gearbox which will cost more than the car is worth. So we decided to use the scrappage scheme and get a new Picanto for me but it won't be ready before August.

I've been in my new part time job since January and so far EVERY SINGLE PENNY I've earned has gone straight to the vet.

This. On the assumption your horse has no symptoms of strangles, there is a high chance it will come back clear. Fingers crossed!
