Wobblers disease

Wobblers is often progressive, so your horse may have it but until it gets bad, you may not notice it. It can start as a very low grade conditon, but as the horse gets older and changes shape it becomes more noticeable, they are normally born with it but it may be poss. to come on later due to an injury. We had one with it a few years ago, he arrived a four yr old, big and gangly and just seemed very unbalanced, as he got older he never got more balanced and almost seemed drunk. Eventually age 6 it became very clear as he could not reverse (he got himself in to the feed room and while trying to reverse him out collapsed) and one day while tied on the yard he pulled back on the lead rope and fell like a stone (looked dead for a few mins but then got up again). After vet looked at him we had him PTS shortly after as it seemed to be getting worse, and we couldn't really risk him even having a life just turned out as a companion.

Thanks
horse on your yard has gone really bad on his feet and can barley walk. It seems like he cant move all for feet to walk if that makes sense (hes about 14) and vet said ataxia so i was researching it last night and i seen it was linked to wobblers so i thought id ask if anyone knows much about it or has any experience. Most iv read up about dont have a very good end :(

I bought a 10 yr old mare, and although she passed a 5 stage vetting, was put down after 6 mnths of ownership as was diagnosed with wobblers. She was a poppet and we were devastated, but didn't want her collapsing in the field and the ensuing trauma for her or ourselves. As far as I am aware it is not a curable disease, although can be operated on for certain cases. It is more common in youngsters but can also be bought on by trauma ie a bad fall, which is what we think may have happened in our mare's past.
