I am looking at changing to pellets for my bedding. I have never used them before i a am based in west sussex, so if someone could reccomened someone who is cheap and local that would be brilliant!. Aslo i would like to know how they are used like how you apply the water etc as i do not have access to the hose in the barn as it is outside :)

Hi, i'm up in Aberdeen so cant help you with a supplier, but i use them for my horse and they are really good, especially for a wet horse! i usually put in 2 bags a week and once a bed is established i dont wet mine, i add the pellets to the existing bed and overnight they will expand with the moisture from the bedding. If i do wet them i just open the bag up completely and dampen using the spray on a watering can, they really dont need much water and they will fluff up then just add them too your bed. Hope that helps!

I dont wet my topping up pellets either, they break down and mix in over time.

When I start a bed off I put one bag (15/20kg) in a wheelbarrow and pour in 3/4 bucket of water and leave it for a few mins to start expanding then tip into the stable. Much easier than mesing around with a hosepipe. In the winter if its very cold I do find that adding a kettle full of boiling water helps get the process over more quickly!

Dont be tempted to soak more than one bag in a wheelbarrow at a time....its like a major popcorn explosion!

I get wood pelletts from liverpool wood pellet company.(I live in west wales) they are economical and reliable. You order from their website which is liverpool based but they have depots around the country from where they get delivered from. so no need to worry about scary delivery costs.
I use a watering can to wet the pellets as i dont have a hosepipe down to the stables - use water collecting barrels off the stable roofs. hope that helps.

I too buy my wood pellets from liverpool wood pellets and find they give me the best price per bag.
when I started using them I spread the bags out on the stable floor and used 1 watering can per bag and soaked the bedding. Once the bed was established I add 1 dry bag a week and mix throughtly with the bed. And you notice during the night that the pellets draw the moisture out the bed and fluff up.
