WOHOOO just thought i'd drop a little post to express my excitement for the fact that when I looked out my window this morning first thing I saw was a massive red combine. Why does this excite me? Because it means soon the fields will be filled with lovely big straw bales for me to sneak in and jump :D

Am I the only one who looks forward to these kinds of simple pleasures?

Whoa - do you jump the massive big bales, or the small conventional ones?! I think i'd die if I tried to jump the big ones - I suppose they would be great fun if I had some b**locks!!

Haha, one of the problems I sometimes encounter round here is that the time between baling and stacking is short..as soon as they finish its tack up and quick GOGOGO :D great fun though :p

love this time of year too! I dont do the jumping as mostly ours are the big round ones but its the only good chance to have a good gallop round my way (have farmers permission to use the edges!). Had an absolute blast in a massive great stubble field as just let my mare go until she wanted to stop and tears streaming down my cheeks from the wind. Its not often I do that as too busy wondering about what if she trips/ spooks/ I fall off / she gallops off / who will find me / who will look after the children etc etc etc - argghhhh where did my courage go??!!! I so forgot how much fun it was having a good old gallop!

YES!!!!! I had a blast round our old farm last summer doing the bales :D Though did accidently split one catching it with a hind hoof [a stack of SMALL bales and all, after doing the big ones, but no...had to split a small one haha!.] Woops!

The stubble is rock hard in our area, too hard for a canter let alone jumping on it, but the bales don't hang around long enough, baled up and on the trailers in no time...like a military operation lol

Trouble is = round here you get about 20mins between combine and plough!!

Its like this around here to be honest..luckily i'm friends with one of the people who normally do the baling,so he is on strict instructions to text me when its jumping time :D

Didn't exactly go to plan today though..ended up riding the crazy thoroughbred thing and jumping has never been her fortee so to speak..she jumped the first one though..I think she was thinking we were just going for a good old gallop on the stubble then when she found this big straw bale in front of her- Blimey! No time to think about dodging it, over we go I guess :D Any attempts after that and nu-uh, she wasn't going over  being the sharp thing she is you'd go up to them, legs on, good contact then 3 2 1 -duck out at last second- :o doesn't help they are only about a metre&half front accross  Oh well..we'll be back tomorrow, with determination

I don't mean to lower the mood, but someone was killed in my area a few years ago after jumping a big bale. Not sure exactly what happened but it was something to do with the fact the bales move and so when horse caught a hoof everything went very wrong. Not nice. Tho i wish i had the balls and horsepower to have fun jumping them!

Well I guess whatever you do with horses there are always risks, no matter how careful we are!
The ones I was doing today weren't the massive ones though.. need a bit more psyching up to attempt those! They were the meduimish ones :D
