My horse has been very funny about taking a left contact for quite some time. Last summer the dentist checked him and found nothing really wrong. He was 6 at the time. He also said he couldn't see any sign of potential wolf teeth.

Roll on to now he is very funny about left contact and will go from canter to halt in a split second and object. This evening got much worse and was running backwards and threatening to rear. I tried to work him through it to no avail. A very unhappy horse and a very unhappy rider! I have noticed on the lunge with side reins on equally he tilts and bends to avoid that contact.

I had a look in his mouth and found two small peg like teeth in front of his upper large molars on both sides, so I am wondering if these are wolf teeth and are what is causing the issues, research suggests this might be what they are. My question is can wolf teeth descend between 6 and 7 years of age? My research says its earlier, but if there was no sign last summer I am doubting myself. My dentist can't come regularly due to our location and is not due back for a few months for me to check.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

They sound like wolf teeth and they can erupt at any age, if they are causing issues then the vet will be the best person to deal with removing them.
