Hi

My mare has a wolf tooth that the vet has advised I get removed before it causes any problems. How long do people think she will need off from being ridden after it has been removed?

Thanks

Meg

I think the vets I worked with said about 1 week. Some are ok in a shorter period of time, but a week is a safe time (I am pretty sure thats right)

If you aren't sure tho I would just ring up your vets and double check!

can still exercise (but lunging with a caverson, no bits in!)

I always advise about a week off but as said already each horse is different. The mouth heals incredibly quickly so it shouldn't take too long before you can rebit. Alternatively go bitless for a week or so and they don't have to have any time off.

My girl's due to have one out in Feb, so I've got her going in a bitless now, so there's no big deal when it's done. We'll just wander gently for a few days, then back to normal. I hope.

Had my 4 years olds woolf teeth done in December and tied it into a 2 week holiday I had already booked.
As he was only broken last year and has been an absolute dream I was happy to give him a couple of weeks of to be on the safe side .
First day riddden after the lay off he was still the dream ride he was before they were done.
