Jack is 13, he has wolf teeth that never broke through the skin. They havent been a prob until now but there going to have to come out as I can even get put a bit in his mouth atm. As they havent come throught the gum does this mean his will need sadating to have them removed? Is this a job for the vet or ETD? Ive always been told never to let vets near teeth or feet! If it requiresa vet, how much £££ am I going to have to part with?!

Sorry can't help you with wolf teeth and price. Just to say we have our vet do our horses teeth and he does a thorough job.

There are vets who can and vets who shouldn't! Some vets are qualified EDT's as well. Mine is.

I had my mares 2 wolf teeth taken out last year. Both were through the gums but well established and not the easiest to take out. I can't remember exactly but it was round about £200 including call out and sedation. I would guess yours would be more though, if they haven't broken through the gum.

You would most probably need sedation, therefore you would need the vet. My vet does my horses' teeth and he does a really good job. I think TBH no matter who you use for routine teeth jobs, for the removal of wolfies the vet is the best option.
However, if they haven't been a problem with bitting until now (and he's 13), how do you know your current bitting problems are due to wolf teeth?

Ru had a blind one removed and he was sedated. The vet did it but didn't get it all out and it had to be done again so may be worth getting both the vet (for sedation) and EDT (for removal)!

I did think he had a prob with his back as he was jumping about like somthing was pinching him when I lunged him the other day, I took his saddle off and he was no better so I put the saddle back on and took his bridle off (Just left caverson on) and he was fine. Today I had a good feel around his mouth and he jumped about 3 feet in the air when I touch the area around his wolfies!

Looks like I'd better get saving then hey?! Flippin' horses! lol

My mare had her wolf teeth taken out in october last year - she had to go into vets surgery to have them done and was heavily sedated as one was humungous (found by dentist at her first routine checkup since owned by me) it cost me £120 for the sedation, teeth out and antibiotics.

I'd recommend EDT for extractions - he will ask for a sedation which will have to be given by a vet so you are paying two people so it's up to you really.
My 3 year olds turned out to be attached by a thread so I could propably have taken them out myself in the end!
Haven't had the vet's bill yet, but my EDT only charged his normal check-up and float fee as the job was so simple. Good bloke.

When we had to have power tools on Little Lad when we first got him, we took him to a local vet's. They have an EDT visit one day a week - get the vets on hand for the sedation and the experienced EDT. Happy pony.

No extraction, but they worked on pone for about an hour and the bill was something like £130.

Why not speak to your vet? They are going to have to be there to sedate anyway, so why not ask their opinion as to whether it is a job they are confiden they can do well, or whether you should get an EDT in - I am assuming, however, that all vets are as honest as mine! She will always say if she thinks there is someone else who will do a better job. Also it can get very expensive if you have to have the EDT AND the Vet - I had a horse that needed some work with the power tools done to remove a large ramp, the EDT cost £160 and then I had Vet call out, sedation and attendance to pay on top!
