Had an EDT out to see my boy yesterday for the first time (their vet did him just before I bought him). The only problem he found was that he has a single wolf tooth on his top left jaw. He said it was up to me really whether to leave it or have it taken out, it didn't look like it was causing problems.

The thing is, my boy is quite one-sided and the left rein is his bad rein. When I first got him, he was like a different horse on the left, really resistant and stiff. After 6 months in work he's much better, but I still struggle on the left sometimes, especially with canter transitions and leg yield. He's worse on the left when my instructress rides him too, so I don't think it's me.

Now I'm wondering, could it be the wolf tooth?

Also, what's the risk of having it out and how much time off work do they need?

Any advice gratefully received!

lucky i just popped on here and saw this.

Yes have it removed because with him working "one sided" it could easily cause compensatory lameness.

If the horses was not displaying any uncomfortableness with the bit or the way he is working then id say leave it........but not in this instance.

They barely need anytime at all a few days and back to it, if its only small then 2-3 days, i would always have them removed they don't serve any purpose only potential problems, if its huge then sometimes they may need a week off.

Genie had two very solid wolf teeth, but I had them removed as she really leans on you. Now they're out she leans a lot less, although I did have to ride her in a headcollar for about 1 1/2 weeks.
