Woman admits cruelty to pony found dead

Two things - 1) She only owned the pony for 9 months so what about the previous owner selling a 25 year old on to an uncertain future?? and 2) why is she banned from keeping bovine animals too??

Apart from that i think what she has done is disgusting :(

"Feeding once a day" is also a very strange thing to bring into this. I presume "night" means that she claims she couldn't see the condition of her horse because it was dark?
My horses only get fed once a day, but that one time they get given enough hay to last them.

That's just shameful excuse. Until about October it's not really dark until 6pm..and light as early... and did she know nothing of the needs of a veteran pony? Poor poor horse.

My 24year old pony is only fed onece a day! - he has hay in the field by day if he wants it, which he doesn't, and hay at night in his stable which he does. And he has a little feed at night. So yes it's just an excuse as he is, for a retired pony, who's got COPD and is half blind (!) in tip top form, and thinks he's about 5.

its a shame that the pony is referred to it! it was a being!!! funnily enough many ponies and horses survive being fed/checked once a day IF they are given enough bucket food and hay to last, and of course water! (being that they are in good health, rugged appropriately, teeth feet and worming done.) the odd sudden death does occur, esp in the elderly.

Just goes to show that there are worse things than death.

There is one thing worse than a life ending in horror, a horrorful life never ending :(

Sometimes PTS is the best option than passing a horse on to a 'retirement home' :(

I agree that feeding a horse once a day is fine, provided of course that the feed is sufficient for the needs of the horse and a regular condition check is made. Lots of people I know who have horses and ponies that live out only go up to them once a day and the animals are just dandy.
What astounded me in the article was that this woman thought that 'being busy' was an acceptable defence for letting her horse slowly starve to death.
I'm busy, we're all busy. If I was so 'busy' that I couldn't look after an animal, I wouldn't have one.

Doesn't take much to turn your car head lights/ torch on or run a hand over legs and under rugs does it? A quick check and feed takes all of 20 minutes...
