2 days ago a woman was out riding between Oddington and Charlton on Otmoor when she was stopped by a man in a black ford focus. she was verbally abused and he said he would run any horse on the road off the road. he was very aggressive.

this has been reported to the police

please be careful and do not ride out out your own.

I think you are being a little sensational here, verbal abuse when riding is something I've encountered many times after I have shouted at drivers almost taking my boot off!
Your headline made me assume she had been dragged off her horse and raped, not shouted at...

Right, he sounds more than the usual nutter then.
We ended up pretty well ready for a row every time we rode when we lived in Lancs, the drivers there just drove past at speed and eventually we all made special extra long schooling whips with fishing weights on the end for hacking out, when a car zoomed past too close we whacked the roof leaving a dent.
Oh I know that's anti-social but in 12 years we had my husband and his horse driven into on a narrow lane, numerous near misses and eventually we fought back.
A friend and her husband were both knocked over stone walls further up our lane, the driver said the sun blinded him. At 8pm on a summer's evening. One rider never rode again, the other is left apprehensive when hacking, and he got a small fine..
In consequence we were always ready with abuse ourselves in the end, one of the main reasons we moved 300 miles away to where horses seem to have priority on lanes.
I am full of admiration for riders who regularly dance with 40 ton trucks passing at speed far too close, and thankful we don't get that here.
Did anyone see why the chap was abusive, was he held up or was there no apparent reason for the incident?

he tried to pull her off her horse and said he was going to run all horses he comes across off the road.

there are lots of wierdos in today society, so forgive me if I'm worried!

and yes, i have also had people shouting out car windows at me in the past. but i think this is different.

I think lots of people say things in the heat of the moment, it is only in very rare cases that they actually do something. I do know it is being investigated so hopefully he will be dealt with.

If someone tried to drag me off my horse i would beat them around the head with my whip!! Mind you, one of my horses would probably take his head off before i had the chance!

1) it was a little longer ago than 2 days ago

2) he did get out of the car and approach her to be abusive, so more than just the usual shouting from the car.

ah...just got to this bit...

not quite your average basket case then.....

I can understand where you are coming from about warning people but surely if everytime a driver did this to a rider this forum would be inundated with posts?

I had this the other day with a guy local to where I keep my horse. He nearly hit my horse even though i had asked him to slow down and wait behind me so I could pull in for him.
He flew past me then jumped out of the car giving me verbal abuse, threatening me etc.
I reported him to the police (took his car reg) they took details from me of what happened, went to see him and the matter is dealt with.

Why didnt the woman get the number plate? if it was more than 2 days ago why havent the police done something already and got back to her?
