Words fail me ................

Sentencing her to two concurrent 12 week jail terms, suspended for 12 months, magistrate Dr Susan Dadlani said her previous good record of keeping animals meant they would not be disqualifying her from continuing to do so, despite what she had done.

Dr Dadlani said: 'Over a number of years you have had many animals that you have looked after well. We are not going to disqualify you from keeping animals in the future.'

There are no words!!!

For one, it is very irresponsible of her to allow the dogs to get into a situation where sister and brother could mate....

And the rest I can't even.... Why would that be the first thought to cross your mind?? And I can't believe she got 'let off' because she's been good at having pets beforehand - someone who will bash puppies over the head and put them in a freezer is not someone I would want looking after other pets. No matter what her excuse was for doing it.

Surely you have to be seriously mentally ill or utterly evil to do such an awful thing, and that sentencing is a joke where do they find these judges!

I agree with you Pinkyboots, those poor puppies, I sometimes wonder how much more evil people can get, at least she has been named and shamed, you never know she may get her just desserts....

i do not understand the judges ruling- it's almost like saying- you raised 3 kids fine, so although you killed your 4th, we wont get social services involved if you have another one!

madness, true madness. Like others said- mating can be prevented, or pretty sure there are abortion pills if you are aware an accident may of happened. no excuse to then murder them due to inbreeding

The alizin injection is available and some vets will spay and remove an unwanted litter if it's early enough. The RSPCA *spit* recommend freezing sick fish/lobsters for the pot as a 'kind' manner of euthanasia. Hyperthermia makes animals fall asleep, I hear, but ffs, what that woman did is disgusting. No custodial sentence and no ban? Unbelievable. :(

Having had hypothermia I can say it was painless, but the getting over it was no fun.
I can't see why they needed to die, if they were healthy, sibling matings are not necessairly the end of the world - not that you would want to breed from any results, there is no doubt they could be perfectly functional dogs. My farrier had a brother to sister litter of labs, they were all fine.

They couldn't be registered as a product of a sibling mating, but I doubt that has stopped some breeders lying about the sire and even dam before now. Whilst I'm loath to believe a word from the Daily Mail, there were apparently no defects. Saying that, I remember a mention of blue merle, I know double blue merle causes issues (I think!)

I had read they were merles, so likely to have issues. I'm pretty sure defects such as blindness and deafness couldn't be detected in such young pups, poor little things.

Ah! That makes more sense. But, you know, if the vet refused to put them down he is as accountable as her.

They were the result of 2 merle siblings.
It would be surprising if all the pups were double merle and if any were I would expect a vet to likely be happy to PTS so I expect they either weren't or the tale has got mixed up. It would be interesting to know the vets court evidence that I assume was given. It is certainly reported that an appointment was offered for the next day but that she wanted them done immediately and said she would do it herself.

I am not sure if they were all healthy pups why the vet refusing the PTS makes them as accountable as her? I don't imagine they suggested she could freeze them instead.

Another forum user has had previous dealings with this woman that were less than pleasant.

I think there was other stuff going on for her to make such a thing of it and present the bodies... apparently she rang the third vets to declare they had been in the freezer for 10 minutes already.

From the story I read it seemed the vets were prepared to speak to her the following day - and she had confirmed to them that none of the puppies had any obvious genetic defects - but she couldn't wait so killed the pups (and apparently one was found the following day having died from a blow to the head by a tin opener!). I haven't found anywhere yet that says the pups were double merle (although the bitch was merle).
