So I had meant to send the blades off for sharpening but forgot. I reckoned I'd get another clip out of them as only done 3 clips (although one very hairy thick coarsed fell). Nope!! Started pulling after nearside and a small bit on the off. Grabbed the spare set but they weren't brilliant. Damn it, I was determined to finish.

Then when dismantling, the reason 2nd side looked worse became clear. Side one done with 1.5mm fine blades, side two had 4.5mm coarse!! Now she's going to be heavier on the right.

All blades off for sharpening tomorrow.

Sorry, I’m laughing! I’ve been that optimistic clipper, stupid with a hairy cob and a major dilemma re rug/no rug when half the horse is done

It could be worse! You could have ended up looking like Hank did the first time he went out to race

No one told me he was bad to clip (apparently this was mentioned at the sales!) And I ran the clippers all over him, down the front of his face, down his legs, underneath etc. And he didn't bat an eye. So I started clipping. I did my usual start on the shoulder, go halfway up the neck then go backwards. It started off OK then it very quickly got quite dangerous. So on one side he had a straight line 6" back from his head, a straight line from his flanks up and every in-between gone. His bum was left untouched as my legs would have been shattered if I had attempted that! I figured if I could do the same the other side he would be fine and it wouldn't be noticeable. Yeah. Nope! He was having none of it and I nearly died after clipping 3 stripes out of his shoulder So that was that!

I dope him now that wasn't an option first time round as it was too close to his race

He goes to the Gold Cup in a few weeks and you can scrutinise his clip all you want! It's flawless! He was sparkoed for it a few weeks ago And when I say sparkoed I mean - poke it and it falls over kind of sparkoed!

BBs coat seems to be thicker this year, wondering whether just to whack it off he seems to be sweating more than usual
