(no, nothing too dodgy I promise

)

A trusted friend rode my pony today and said that I ride one sided - ie, my left side is stronger than my right (I'm right handed as well which seems a bit odd...?

) Is there anyway to correct this? I didn't know I was as I try to work evenly on both reins/ride as evenly as I can but something is obviously going wrong somewhere.

Does anyone know how I can go about correcting this as I don't know where to even start...?

Thanks a million...

I dunno... I have same problem! I noticed when I ride that ponies go to the right, end up on wrong side of road! Blamed them at first, then realised I actually walk like it too!
Drift over for some reason..... can it be cured?

It can be cured.

I'm a leftie and tend to ride much stronger on my right but lean to my left.

So to correct the sitting crookedly, I have to over-empathsize sitting to the right. Feels really odd at first but I'm technically then sitting straight in the saddle.

Just try and be really aware of it - every couple of strides say to yourself "I'm sitting left, must move over"

And if you carry your bag on your right shoulder, swap it to your left or vice versa. Carry buckets with your other hand

Im horrendoous! I used to be dead left sided, then in my desperation to even myself up I am now right sided. every time I ride it is my main point of focus!

Non stirrup work is brill for it.
So is being lunged with no riens and no stirrups.
Or the other thing I like is make sure your weight in both stirrups is even.
Also read everything by Pippa Funnell, because she is really big on it!

Here is a good way to tell if you are leaning to one side or the other...drop your stirrups. Then you have nothing to lean on. You may find it feels funny to ride straingt or you may find you are still going to one side however with out stirrups you will be able to feel it better.

Pay attention to your seat bones too. A lot of people forget about that, you tend to have one seat bone you sit more firmly with. Concentrate on keeping your hips square as well as watch your shoulders...they should also be square and level.

It will be something you have to think about all the time at first but then it will become second nature.

If you can a good idea is to have someone video you will you are riding, make sure they get some of you coming straight on and away. You will be able to see where you dont sit straight and when you tend to lean.

The first thing is to become aware it is a problem, which you have Then you need to work out where in your riding it is a problem, eg my sister sits to the left, while someone on my yard sits straight but has her left hand further back than the right.

Then you need to constantly correct yourself, even down to opening draws and picking things up first with one hand then the other, until naturally both sides become even,

It wont happen overnight but with small gradual changes it will become better
