HI

So my horses stable door is timber, and hes chewing his way through it - hes almost half way in 2 months! i have liberally applied cribstop and he licks it up like he loves it! It does not deter him at all.

I dont have enough mad skills to put metal over the top - does anyone else have any ideas?

A nice sloppy mix of poo and water - admittidly not pleasant if you drag your sleeve across it, it will stop him chewing! Do you know why he does it? Does he have enough hay, does he get bored or perhaps crib?

HI thanks, he just likes to do it i think - ive watched him do it and it seems like enjoyment.. he does not crib or take in any air while doing it, he just licks and chews it. He also does it when tied up to be groomed/etc.

He has enough food, and he doesnt do it on the fencing in the field, so maybe its a stable boredom thing... maybe i shall invest in a few toys or dig out my nutball..

Beware with Chilli - we put it on our mares tail and the foal loved it - lost 6 inches overnight!

Some horses like humans like some things more than others - vicks vapour rub got our little minx foxed though, she didn't like it at all.

Good luck because as soon as they seem to get a taste for something .....

For a laugh my husband thought he'd try her with different chilli's to see what she likes best, she's not so keen on pepper taste but will eat it, jalapeno's are no challenge, in fact she likes the birds eye ones, not so keen on scotch bonnets either!!!! She loves wasabi peas!

Odd pony - now 4.5 years!! and still has odd taste! Could kill my husband for it as she's always been into everything but you can't eat crisps or anything near her!

Also meant to add that she has the interlocking stable mats and even manages to pull these up and nibbles the edges if she's bored. For her its because she can, no stable toy works to distract her and when she's full if she's bored or anxious then she starts.

Not suggesting the same for your boy, just hope you can solve it!
