wood pellets , are they really that cheep

Hi, iv been using wood pellets for 2 months now, i take the wee and poo out every day, but i am using 3-4 bags a week and my bed is not big at all,im using LWP its just everybody says they are fantastic but to be honest i dont find them that absorbant and a 15k bag for 4.00 i find i need 2 bags to get the same amount as a bale of shavings so that s a pound more..comments greatley received

I found exactly the same thing! I bought a pallet of the Chorley ones and seemed to be throwing out loads. I know that you aren't supposed to take all the wet just the worst of it and mix the rest in but I was still loosing alot. I also found that when I made the bed deep it went quite mouldy smelling. Not really that impressed im affraid I wouldn't buy them again...

i thought that as well, and when it is wet my goodness its heavy..im glad you said that, i think they would be worth using but they need to be about 2.75 a bag esp as you have to soak them

i got a good deal on a few pallet loads, so i gave them ago... thought they were brill the first month then after that the beds were getting dustier and dustier... horses came out minging and stank... went str8 bk to shavings and never looked back, i use equine services for cheap and great quality shavings-recommend anyday

I found I struggled last year when I first bought them. My beds weren't deep enough.

I used to put 8 bags down a stable at first.

I now put down 13 bags initially. I don't bother soaking them other than chucking a bucket of water on them.

I remove the poo and rake the top layer of clean off of the wet. Then I chuck out the wet circle. Then I throw some of the really dry off the sides and mix into the middle to ensure an even moisture content.

I top up with a bag (unsoaked) once a week or whenever I feel my bed getting a little low. This is for two very wet boys.

I have discovered that the deeper I keep my bed, the dryer it stays and the cheaper it is.
