Wood pellets for bedding?

Hi Sue, yes I use them!! They are brilliant for absorbing the wet and even the moisture aroun the droppings, so there is a lot less waste than any product I know of BUT they do leave the horses really dusty. Boo has a mixture of them and shavings, he's a really dirty bu**er and also wee's a lot and it's the most economical bedding i've ever used. Fortunately, we have a supplier right on the doorstep, they can supply it in 1 tonne bags which works out quite cheap, but we buy it in small bags, which I tip into the wheelbarrow then cover with water and it expands by about 3 x's its size.

hi sue

I use them too and so do all my liveries. I love it. So easy to muck out and I can do 3 horses to a barrow as you only take out solids. The bags are small and easy to carry and I use one a week if in 12 hours a day or 2 a week if in 24 hours a day.

Mine are all on rubber mats and with this bedding you never need to lift the mats as the wet doesn't make it through it gets absorbed.

The muck heap rots down really fast as the bedding is already broken down.

I don't find it dusty and it works well for the big coloured I brought over the other day as he had a hobday and tieback and is extremely reactive to dust and will cough badly on shavings and straw but not on this stuff.

It doesn't look as nice as a lovely big fluffy bed of Aubiose or shavings as it does change to a a darker colour over time. But I would not go back to shavings after having used it.

We use it at work, it's very, very similar to AquaMax bedding. Basically the water turns it to dust. It's horrible to sweep, very heavy, looks awful, but is very absorbent and we hardly take any out compared to the straw and shavings we also use. I hate it though and wouldn't use it myself!

There are a few on the market, aquamax and woody pet spring to mind.
I hated it with a passion, by my YO loves it ... suppose it's a bit like marmite

It is the most absorbant bedding I have ever used by far! However I found it heavy, dusty through the summer and a nightmare to muck out if your horse plays poo football.

I use the Woody pet and don't find it at all dusty and most definitely not heavy. it comes up really easily on the fork and if you have a fine tooth metal shavings rake it is a doddle to clear out the solids, even if y ou have one like mine that likes to hide them.
