Hi all! im considering trying my horse on wood pellets and was just wanting to see what feedback you all have on them ect. ive heard from lots of people that they are much better than straw and shavings (both of which ive used and hated) the main thing i would like to know is are they any good for an extremely messy horse? Are they good value for money? and most of all where can i get them preferably in bulk for a good price?

I've been using LWP for the last 3 years.

I tried straw pellets in the beginning of the winter but they didn't work for me.

I love wood pellets. I have two wet horses and I have to use a few bags a weeks for nice beds - but it's still cheaper than shavings and less back breaking than straw.

They are extremely easy to work with and make a comfortable bed.

I never bother wetting them as the air is damp enough in the NW;)
 
My daughter has just swapped to wood pellets for her very messy horse and its what has worked best for her so far. She uses a minimal amount with rubber matting. She has just had a pallet delivered - 100 x 10kg bags for 275 pounds. Not sure which company this was from tho. We have had Liverpool pellets and The Yard ones previously.
 
I have LWP, I like them. I started using them about a 3 weeks ago when I got my new rubber matting, they start off looking very pretty but they then get dark, so dont be suprised! I got a fine tines fork as was using a normal rubber matting fork but as my horse likes to mush her poos in most was dropping through, so you do have to sift it well. I've started the bed with 12 x 15kg bags (12x16 stable) but probably would've been better with 10, ive only put one bag in since starting the bed and take out about 3/4 of a barrow a day comapred to 3 or 4 barrows with straw.
 
We switched to wood pellets from shavings and I muchhhh prefer it! So much easier and quicker to muck out, they seem a lot more comfortable & supportive too.
If you have a clean horse - i've found they tend to stay quite pristine!
Unfortunately mine is an absolute monster and destroys his stable, disgusting! - it does still look a lot neater than the shavings beds though, and it takes about half the time to make it look decent as it did with shavings. At the start it was amazing as the muck stayed put but he soon found a way to make it untidy again. Huge improvement on other bedding though, and it doesn't smell which is nice! Definitely recommend them. We use LWP.
 
Love, love, love them. I've got my old boy on shavings at the mo (cost only) and I cant wait to get him changed over to wood pellets. My foal is on them and he churns his bed up every day and they are so easy to sort through. Would recommend putting them on top of rubber matting too.

Have used aquamax in the past but they are now too expensive - so now use plospan from my local saddlery. My friends use five star bedding which are also very good.
