How many bags to start new bed ? . Im finding it good and dry but hate dark patches and thinking that maybe I havent been using enough to start bed off. Hes on rubber matting but dont mind how many I use as long as it looks cleaner.

What brand of pellets are you using?
I find some go much darker than others. Some people have found mixing in the odd bag of shavings to get a 'whiter' looking bed works well.

To start a new bed I usually use about 8-10 bags (15kgs)

Hi Im using verdo ordered them at hoys ,they have been coming n for about 3 weeks now.I have found bed dry but stained.

If your horse is very wet it might be worth taking some of the worst out when you lift the poos. Don't forget when you top up that you don't need to add more water, just let them take the moisture out of the bedding already down

Clippy I have been taking out some of stained bed daily ,today I put in 4 additional bags and only slightly watered it .The sides /edges seem to be keeping well ,maybe new horse is just really minging but he seemed better when I used shavings as far as having fresh clean looking bed .I ordered pallet so will stick with it and hope we get balance right
