How long would you expect wooden stables to stay put together? The company that built mine less than a year ago think that less than a year is quite acceptable!!
My ones were built in 1982 and do have some woodworm damage and rat holes but are still going strong. The Field owner replaced the roof with new Ondulene stuff this year as the felt roof that it had previously, had been on there since the stable was built!
I replaced some of the woodwormed kick boards this year too with new.
Mine are 25 years old, and still going strong! We creocote most years( occassionally miss one if time limited and weather bad). They were built by Broadfields, now taken over by Redmire.
There has been 1 plank rot out, but that is all. I have had the felt roof replaced twice. I hope they will last another 25,fingers x'd!
We've got some Harlows - I think they're about 40 years old. We've replaced the bottom couple of planks, had a new door or two and re-felted them twice. Oh, and about 10 years ago, we replaced the windows with upvc ones - saves on the painting!
But all in all, they've been great and don't owe us a lot!
The ones I rent have been up over 30 years - the roof has been blown out twice (acts of God!) but apart from that only the kick boards have needed replacing.
I've got Scotts ones which were built 21 years ago. One plank at the back is rotting slightly and the doors could do with a lick of paint but apart from that they are still in good condition - despite having been battered by my current livery who is a door banger and also fond of kicking the walls. They have an Onduline roof.
