Woohoo the shoes worked!

Well, I took ClipClop (his new name as he now sounds like a lot of cocnut shells amplified) out for a ride yesterday - and he never tripped, stumbled once! Infact his paces (ok, we only walked) were so much better - a rhythm for the first time! couple of steep hills - first one down hill where normally I would be praying to God, Allah and anyone else I could think of, whilst leaning back further than normal and muttering a mantra that he didnt stumble, whilst letting him pick his own way. But the bottom of the hill, he was almost striding out, I could FEEL his confidence growing, and he really seemed to be alot braver! So I think it's all worked! Only think I now need to work on is when I ask him to pick his pace up a little, he stamps harder - obviously thinks if he's louder i'll think he's going faster! Now just need to get him fit - he was absolutely dripping when we got back, friends mare had a teeny bit of damp under her saddle

will 'warn' though that the first time is normally the best... its the second you ahve to watch out for as this time they have cottoned on to what you are doing

Im glad the shoes have made such a difference and your horse is feeling more sure of himself now.

haha thanks guys!!! lol! Chico - I was s14tobin... but it sounded awful! - shoes are normal - albeit size 6!!! He's never been shod before, OH said he was impressed he had 'smokin' feet - apparently it fits with his biker-boy horse image!

Yep, looking forward to the second time - but I would have thought after all 4 trotters were done, he would have cottoned on - it's usually getting near him with anything new thats a problem - we're currently undergoing the Battle of the Fly Spray!
