As many of you guys know, Ellie has had me tearing my hair out recently with her antics when turned out. Well, I decided to give her another go today and - touch wood - she immediately began to graze very, very peacefully, and has even had a little lay down! The difference today was that I changed her rug to a lighter, non neck one, and the fact that the sun is shining! I always give her a carrot or a treat when I let her go due to a few problems we have had with her taking off before being set loose; today she took said carrot, gave a little squeal and went trotting off like a Hackney, carrot dangling from the side of her mouth like a fag! Silly horse!

Good for you....I remember your previous post and the comments made!!! Glad she realises it doesnt have to be a drama!!! Do you think it was her being in season?

My horse also can charge off before you let her go (or gets herself worked up in the field)...in fact it can be before you open the gate...it is frustrating and mind boggling...racked our brains to think why...but then there are many times where we wonder about her...she keeps us on our toes!!!!!

Aww Ellie is just the same, her moods are so variable you never quite know what way she's gonna go! But that's what makes her so lovable!
Yes I think being in season may have had a bit to do with it; also they are not muck spreading here any more so the smells may have died down. I dont know; it may be all of these things, it may be none of them! But she is still quiet, so I'm chuffed!

Do you know it's interesting, and I was thinking about this after your original post.

A fried of mine has a real problem with her mare come winter. Once a rug goes on she just stands by the gate miserable all day. Turn her out without a rug and she's fine. Very odd. But by the sounds of it your mare may be a little similar.

Quirky!

So glad she seems happier.
