Hi everyone! I haven't posted for a while due to being busy with mock exams, but I am due to go on work experience at a riding school in the summer and was wondering what I should take. I will be mucking out, grooming, tacking up, leading out on rides and riding towards the end of the placement. I already have jods, muckers, yard clothes but was wondering if there was anything else that would come in useful? I have a tight budget so cannot afford anything fancy or unessessary.

Thank you all and happy riding,

A decent human fly repellent, if you are spending all day on the yard the little barstewards will drive you mental! Also get a small bottle of lavendar oil (essential oils) from Boots - if you get bitten by a horsefly, dab some oil onto it straight away and it will help prevent it from getting too itchy. Have plenty of sun cream too, you will be out in the sunshine for hours and because you're working you may not notice yourself burning. And a baseball cap with a good peak.

energy. lots of it!

food and drink. even more of this!

good sense of humour. you wont survive one day without it!

enjoy :D

Be willing to have a go, be polite and punctual ( sorry bossy teacher) no honestly some think its a good idea to wag, play hooky, be bored..... Just have a go ask if stuck and get a good reference. Any problems then let your teachers know. Sure you will have a great time. Take sunscreen, insect stuff, riding gear and gloves plus loads of food and drink. Good luck with exams!

I agree - take plenty to drink. You will be amazed how much you drink on a warm day when you are busy. Most of all get stuck in and enjoy it

Thanks everyone - there are plenty of things there I hadn't even thought of! By the way, for those of you who asked, I won't be living in but will travel by public transport each day and as for the future, I've had several ideas like vet, nutritionist, author and plenty of others I can't remember but I really can't decide. To be honest, I think I'll just get experience in several different areas and see which I like best! (Oh and exams will play a big part in my decision!)

Thanks again,
Epona97
