A young french girl who is studying for her BTS in elevage (breeding) has asked me if I could research a yard/stud for her in Cornwall or Devon, where she could undertake a month's work experience in February 2009, she is an experienced young horsewoman having competed showjumping up to and inc the Championnat de France Poneys. Any suggestions/contacts gratefully received.

Thank you

I'm not in the area you require - otherwise would volunteer. We had a very good French student this year. BUT - the big problem with French students can be language. Our lad spoke virtually NO English when he came - luckily my resident rider IS French, otherwise it would have been pretty impossible.

I DO know a stud in that area who might help - but as they DON'T have a French staff member and suffered the problem of French students this year who had no English, it would probably be a requirement that she could speak/understand English. Stud work in sign language can be VERY difficult (and occasionally dangerous!)

Thanks for your reply Janet, as a Cornish expat living in France I know exactly what you mean re the language barrier only the other way round, but after 6 years I have at last crossed that hurdle. As for the student she has studied english and has a reasonable grasp of the language, and of course I would always be at the end of a telephone or email if needed.

I would much appreciate the contact details you have in order to pursue this further.

Thanks again

Thank you so much for your response, I will telephone the young lady concerned but before I do could you give me a brief outline of what she could expect at your yard as I have pointed out to her that there may not be a lot going on studwise ie foalings, mares coming in for coering etc in February, but perhaps if you also have youngstock to produce there would be that side of it for her to experience.

Thank you so much, and if you don't want to post all the details on the forum you could use my personal message or email.

Thanks so much Sarah, have spoken to the young lady student tonight and she told me she has spoken to you on the phone and she is over the moon that she can come and do her work placement with you. I have looked at your Rolleston Stud website which is excellent and I have posted a little message in your guest book and registered on your forum.

Once again thank you so much.
