We're looking for a Working Cocker spaniel pup, preferably a dog, preferably liver/liver and white/chocolate, but would consider other colours.

Know of any? Or any breeders with pups on the way?

The dog will live in the home with the family, so a home-reared one would be best for us. He won't be used as a gun dog, but he will be doing obedience training, and he will be trained to go out on exercise with the horses - a good, calm, trainable temperament is therefore a must.

Thank you! Pm me if you prefer...

Thanks Dunc n Toby! We're specifically looking for a dog rather than a bitch. And we do want a young puppy.

but thanks so much for the info anyway, hope the dog finds someone nice - they can be very lively, and I should think the woman didn't really have time for it with two young kids.

And if it's a Working Cocker rather than an English cocker, it will be VERY lively!

We have a working cocker - now 10 and absolutely fabulous! Sweet kind and affectionate - but they are very lively as youngsters so need a lot of exercise - ours is 10 and still rushes around - jumping over walls etc. They are bred on the Borders - we got ours from a gamekeeper at Lauder (near Kelso/Jedbergh). A litter were however advertised locally about a fortnight ago. Try the Kennel Club for reputable breeders - or maybe Google

Thanks Turbobert. I have googled, and couldn't find any pups in the area, although yes, they are popular in Scotland!

We are seeing a pup tonight, but the lady from the working cocker club said she knows the breeder and it will probably be too 'hot' for us!! Apparently some are Hyper and others are Hyper Hyper, and this particular breeder we are seeing has Hyper Hyper ones!

Still, no harm in looking...

Ours is very laid back and loving - but that is interesting. I suspect those that are bred to 'work' rather than 'show' are the more sensible ones. Certainly we have had several very neurotic 'show' bred cockers and would never go back to them. Some of the Working Cockers are bred to show though - sorry that sound double dutch!
