Is it higher in energy than pet dog food?

I am going this morning to the feed merchant, am swapping Henry onto probably Skinners as it is cheaper

Will I need to feed much less than I do at the moment?

Don't want him to get porky again!

On the skinners bag it says to feed 1 cup full per 8kg of body weight. i dont find that equates to much so you should be ok, its been much easier to amange my labs weight on this.

Working food is often a lot higher in protein, not sure about the energy though as I do not have any sacks handy to check.

Cool

He does get plenty of exercise, but he is no worker, the lazy beastie - his work day is composed of sleeping under the desk, looking cute and relieving our stress, and occasionally stealing people's lunches

I might see if they have the maintenance one, it says it is for dogs in light work or during the closed season so might be better for an office dog.

We have our vizslas on Beta Pet Maintenance, except a few months ago the feed merchant ran out so we got the Beta Active and Oh-My-God they were NUTS!! We upped their workload to compensate but we just couldn't bottom them out and they were totally unmanageable, clearly there is a difference between them

We have our Pointers on Skinners Maintenance, which is either 8 or 10% protein. The are spot on weight wise.

The feed merchants had run out one time, so we moved them onto the next bag up, which is kibble. You wouldn't believe the amount of poops they did, it was horrendous.

Otto is on the Duck and Rice (or Salmon and Rice) and I have to feed him loads of the stuff to keep his weight up, but then he burns energy like it's going out of fashion!

It is 22% Protein and I think the Salmon and Rice is similar, although the Feed Rep suggested we keep him on Salmon and Rice as it was better at keeping weight on, however his tummy didn't agree with the Salmon and Rice as well.

Hmm well just got a little bag of the duck one because they didn't have the maintenance one locally. Hope I'm not about to be pooped out of house and home

If this doesn't suit, I'll move onto Chudleys next!

Will wean him onto it this week and see how he goes - literally

When Max arrived he had been fed Bakers and I changed him straight on to Skinners and he was just ok and just hoovered it up

Didn't introduce it slowly as I decided the sooner he was off the crap the better - bit like a child living on Skittles!!

When Otto was on Chudleys he did about 300 poops a day!! He also hated it because it made his tummy so sore, he would go and lie down when you put his food out, whereas now he goes nuts at the mere suggestion of his food!

Working dog food isn't necessarily high in protein - working dog just means there is no VAT charged, it is a loophole in the law which sadly will probably be closed one day when a government realises they are losing out!

Also, if you feed a wheat gluten or completely gluten free food, you need to cut down the qmount of food, probably by about a third (look on the back of the bag). Wheat is the main ingredient in many dog foods, and acts as a filler, with a wheat gluten free you're just feeding the good stuff without the filler!
