hi,

my horse has some white marks on his back legs , caused my hunting i think.

would he get put down for having those in a working hunter class? i think he would be bril at these classes but no point going if there going to mark us down.

???

Yes you will get marked down, however get some makeup/ boot polish (depending on the colour of your horse) and apply a small amount to cover them.

Depends on how bad they are - you might be able to disguise them - and what's caused them...

It depends a little on the judge as well. Some will mark them down more than others, whilst some will ignore them entirely, particularly in the working classes.

Best thing to do is try and see how you get on!

I *think* in workers they are a little bit more forgiving as the horse is expected to have a job outwith showing. However it can't do any harm to disguise marks/scars for a showing class. I do think however if the judge was stuck between two horses the higher placing would go to the horse without scars/blemishes

We took the ex racer in one at the weekend, no wonder he never won anything, he looked more like a hunter than the ruddy ID! He has several scars on his legs, some worse than others. He also managed to take the hair off a good sized chunk of his back leg that hadn't grown back. He was placed 2nd above some beautiful horses who looked much better than he, and only dropped a place after he suddenly decided that the twig in the corner was going to jump up and kill him!

Providing they're not too bad I sholdn't worry. Some judges don't care, some are funny, some may not like the colour of him! But hair dye is a good bet, or a permenant marker. Just remember if the judge runs their hands down his legs you don't want them to come away with a coloured hand!
