I have a black/grey tweed jacket, so should I go for a navy or black velvet hat?????

Navy is more correct but i think black would look better with a grey jacket.

Absolutely not black. Black is only worn by men in the show ring! You need a navy hat with flesh coloured harness. Doesn't matter whether the jacket is green, mustard, grey or blue - always a blue hat!!!
